The Big League Haircut Experience

Big League Haircuts for men and boys is a modern rendition of the old barber shops that are found in the local community streets of American history.

History of the Barber Shop

Once upon a time in the great history of our ancient times, the local barber shop emerged on the scene beginning with the ancient civilizations of Greece, Rome, and Egypt. Barber shops have historically been a place where men have gathered for not only a haircut, but often for friendly talk about local happenings, politics, news, weather, sporting events, and anything else under the sun. In addition to hair cuts, barber shops in various historical periods provided services such as baths, massages, shoe shines, food and drink, entertainment, tooth pulling, blood letting, and even surgery! Prior to the advent of an easy-to-use, mass-produced safety razor in the early twentieth century, a large percentage of men would visit a barber regularly-- sometimes several times a week-- to have their face shaved. All these factors went into making the barber shop an important gathering place in the lives of many men throughout history.

Barber Shops Today!!!!!

With locations that are growing across America, Big League Haircuts and Big League Barbers are on the forefront of a reemergence and reinvention of days gone by. Although the topics of conversation do not include the greatest exploits of the gladiator of the week, topics of conversations are wrapped around the sporting events of the day as ESPN coverage is available at every station for viewing pleasure.

Although Big League Haircuts does not offer hot shaves for men, we do have a soothing shampoo and conditioning treatment followed by a relaxing massage after your haircut. Until they have leaned back into the shampoo bowl and received the full relaxing treatment from Big League Haircuts/Barbers, most men don't realize what pleasure they have been missing. Yes, a man's man really does enjoy his head being cleaned in a soothing method that relieves tension from his body. The cooling conditioner invigorates the scalp leaving a tingling sensation that cannot fully be described but experienced. Following the shampoo and conditioning treatment, a generous shoulder massage is applied that will stimulate the blood flow and finishes the service with sense of vitality.

The perks are great, but it's the cut that you live with. When your stylist/barber calls out your name and greets you, he/she will walk you back to their chair. If you are like most men, you are instantly captivated by the current sporting or news event on the TV screen in front of you. However the stylist needs to know what you are seeking from your haircut and will need to ask you a few questions about your preferences and style.

From the interview the stylist/barber has with you they will be able to create and facilitate the hairstyle you are seeking. He or she may ask when your last haircut was and what you liked or didn't like from your last haircut experience. In addition, he/she may ask whether you wish to simply trim the current style you have. One of the next questions will be whether you would like your neckline to be blocked, rounded, faded to zero or tapered. You will also be asked if you would like your sideburns raised or just trimmed. If you have a part when you come in you may be asked if you always wear a part or if it is because your hair just long. If you request a very short cut, your stylist/barber may ask if you know the clipper guard number that you prefer. At Big League in Orlando each stylist/barber uses the same type of equipment so what you ask for in the clipper length will be exactly the same no matter which store you visit. Finally, if you are sporting a beard, you will be asked if you would like your beard trimmed.

If you have a specific style in mind, feel free to request it, but understand that these styles can be interpreted slightly different from stylist/barber to stylist/barber. It is very wise and important to describe in specific details of what style you are looking for until you and your stylist/barber become more familiar and comfortable with one another.

Perhaps for the customer one of the most difficult things to remember is that most of our stylist/barbers are quite busy delivering services to many customers, so when you sit down and state "do my cut the same as you did last time", the challenge of course is when your last cut was. If it was 2 weeks or 4 weeks ago, the stylist has seen an average of 160 to 320 clients since your last cut. We certainly try to keep clear and concise notes on our customers, noting what they enjoy from their cut, but we apologize as all customers do not have clear notes. We are working with each stylist/barber as well as our receptionists to ensure that proper records are kept.

Finally, one of the greatest challenges as stylist/barbers we have to overcome, is when you really liked your last haircut that you were given, but for whatever reason you went somewhere else and had a haircut that wasn't everything you expected, and now you would like a repeat of the great performance you had at your last visit with us. In the absence of clear notes, our stylist/barbers will need to do the initial interview again with you to bring forth the haircut you desire.

So when you come in for your next visit be ready to have a GREAT Haircut Experience, here at Big League Haircut for Men and Boys!!!!!
